Obituary for Shirley M. Besse
SHIRLEY M. BESSE, 89, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died Thursday, January 14, 2010, at the nursing home. Shirley was born May 30, 1920 in Morrison, IL, to Charles A. and Laura B. (Stubbs) Yohn. She attended Morrison grade schools and was a graduate of Morrison High School. During WWII, Shirley was a candy striper and worked at the Green River munitions plant. Shirley married John H. Besse, Jr. on January 29, 1944 in Morrison. He died May 19, 2007. She was employed as Deputy Circuit Clerk for Whiteside County, IL for 25 years and was also employed at the Abstract Office. Shirley was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Morrison where she served as Sunday School teacher, elder and deacon. She was a member of the Morrison VFW Auxiliary and a member of DAR. Shirley enjoyed golfing with her husband and was a member of the former Morrison Country Club. She had a passion for volunteering. Survivors include one son, Bruce (Kathy) Besse of Bedford, TX; one grandson, Geoff Besse of Bedford, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; three sisters, Betty Anderson-Garrison, Lenore Hiller-Schroeder, and Leone Whistler; two brothers, Charles and Wayne Yohn.
