Obituary for Shirley J. Wiersema
SHIRLEY J. WIERSEMA, 80, of 718 Valley View Drive, Fulton, IL, died Sunday October 28, 2007 at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton, IL. Shirley was born August 13, 1927 in Fulton, IL to Joseph J. and Jane (Borgman) Shipma. She was educated in the Fulton Grade schools and attended Fulton High School. She married Edwin J. Wiersema on February 22, 1947 in Fulton. Shirley was a homemaker and farmed with her husband for many years. Prior to her marriage she worked at the Burpee Seed Company in Clinton, IA, and then during WWII she worked at the Schick Hospital, also in Clinton, IA. She was a member of Gateway Faith Fellowship in Fulton, IL. She was an avid walker, enjoyed gardening, yard work, reading and always loved music. Survivors include her husband, Edwin, three daughters, Sharon (Mrs. Norman) Criss of Fulton, IL, Susan (Mrs. Kenneth) Hartman of Fulton, IL and Pamela (Mrs. Leslie) Huisingh of Fulton, IL; one son, Wayne (Mary) Wiersema of Fulton, IL; nine grandchildren; Rich (Lynelle) Criss, David (Katie) Criss, James (Jane) Criss, Staci (Mrs. Andy) Bentley, Troy Hartman, Melissa Hartman, Jeremy (Marla) Wiersema, Cathy (Mrs. Beau) Eversoll, Amanda (Mrs. Terry) Boonstra; nine great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Housenga and Gladys (Harold) Van Dyke, both of Fulton, IL and Mrs. Evelyn Gendvilas of Clinton, IA. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Beverly Houzenga and Helen Hine; one brother, John Shipma; two grandchildren, Lisa Criss and Elisha Wiersema.
