Obituary for Sadie Huizenga
SADIE B. HUIZENGA, 94, of 3503 Valley Woods Drive, Cherry Valley, IL, formerly of Camanche, IA, died Monday, March 15, 2010 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, IL. Sadie was born February 1, 1916, in Friesland, WI, to Opt and Tena (Kok) Byland. She was educated in the Fulton Grade Schools, in Fulton, IL. She married George T. Huizenga on December 24, 1934, in Morrison, IL. He died November 21, 1995. Sadie worked at Don Matthews Shoe Store in Morrison, and later in the shoe department at JC Penney in Clinton, IA. She was a former member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, where she was an active choir member and sang in many weddings and funerals. She was a member of the Hospital Quartet which sang to patients at the Morrison Community Hospital. In 1961 Sadie became a member of Community Reformed Church in Clinton, IA, where she was an active member of Guild, Christian Women"s Club and Church Women United. Sadie was also the choir director for many years at Community Reformed. She was an avid reader, reading in excess of 200 books per year. Survivors include one daughter, Trudy (Joe) Hunt of Cherry Valley, IL; one son, Ronald G. (Dorothy) Huizenga of Morrison, IL; seven grandchildren, Michael (Judy) Greaves, Jeffrey Greaves, James (Kathy) Greaves, Crystal Greaves; Julene Cornwell, David (Sarah) Huizenga, Andrew (Lori) Huizenga; ten great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Hattie Buikema of Morrison, IL; one daughter-in-law, Konnie Huizenga of Camanche, IA; one sister-in-law, Esther Tichler of Morrison, IL; one brother-in-law, Thomas (Carolyn) Huizenga of California. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; one son, Thomas Huizenga; one grandson, Korey Huizenga; two sisters, Martha Wiersema and Nellie Kettler, two brothers, John and Theodore Byland.
