Obituary for Ruth K. Gorzny
RUTH K. GORZNY, 90, of Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center, Prophetstown, IL, formerly of Morrison, IL, died Friday, February 23, 2007, at the nursing home. Ruth was born June 5, 1916 in Altona, IL, to Carl and Beda (Bloomquist) Severin. She was educated in Altona grade schools and graduated from Walnut Grove, IL Township High School in May of 1934. She married Eugene George Gorzny on December 24, 1943 in Galesburg, IL. He died January 18, 1980. As a young woman, she first worked as a housekeeper and cook for a family in Galesburg. She followed that by employment at Gale Refrigerator Company, where she met her husband, Gene. After their marriage, they moved to the Morrison area and she worked at the Savanna Ordinance Depot, making bombs for the war. After the war, she and her husband, farmed until 1954, when they moved into Morrison. She then worked at Climco Coils for a few years, before going to work at GE as a coil winder. She left GE in 1968 to care for her mother and continue doing the bookwork for her husband"s trucking. In earlier years, she was a bowler, belong to the GEM Club, loved to sew, enjoyed traveling and going in the truck with Gene. She always enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives, and many friend and neighbors. She had overcome some major health issues over the years and took much pride in the fact that she lived alone and drove her own car until she was 90 years young! She decided to give up her license to drive, on her 90th birthday, this past year, and with a lot of persuasion from her cardiologist, family, and friends, she gave up her freedeom to live alone and went to live at The Good Samaritan Home in Prophetstown, where her own mother had resided at the end of her life on earth. Survivors include one daughter, Linda (husband Randy) Boelkins of Morrison; one son, Rodney (wife Jacki) Gorzny of Lyndon, IL; one stepson, Larry (wife Pat) Gorzny of Morrison; ex-daughter-in-law, Marjorie Gorzny of Morrison; eight grandchildren, Mike (Robin) Gorzny of Morton, IL; Pamela Gorzny of Sterling, IL; Rick Gorzny of Fulton, IL; Dave (Angie) Gorzny of Morrison; Kevin Gorzny of Henderson, NV; Kari Gorzny of Las Vegas, NV; Julie Vegter of Morrison and Natasha Boelkins of Morrison; four great grandchildren, Lauren Gorzny of DeKalb and Morton; Erin Gorzny of Morton; Megan Gorzny of Morrison and Jordan Michael Boelkins of Morrison; three sisters-in-law, Caroline (Virgil) Severin Piczak of Chester, VA; Berneice (Wendell) Severin of Crete, Nebraska; and Pauline (Clare) Gorzny Meakins of Denver, CO; one brother-in-law, Frank Gorzny of Idyllwild, CA; a few cousins and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; her husband, Gene; a daughter, Virginia Leigh Gorzny on Jan. 8, 1945; two brothers, Virgil and Wendell Severin; a sister, Dorothy Nelson; a granddaughter, Sheila Marie Vegter on June 15, 1971.
