Obituary for Ruth E. Turney
RUTH E. TURNEY, 97, of Thomson, IL, died Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the Alverno Health Care Center in Clinton, IA.Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Fritz, pastor of Thomson United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday June 29th, until the time of the service. Interment will be in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. Ruth was born September 4, 1918 in Salem Township, Carroll County, IL, to John and Velma (Nicklas) Simpson. She was educated in the Mt. Carroll and Thomson schools, graduating from Thomson High School in 1937. She married Gail S. Turney in Clinton, IA on October 5, 1940. He passed away in 1966. Ruth worked for the Climax Co. in Clinton during WWII, at several restaurants in the area and as the Thomson Village treasurer from 1973 to 1982. She volunteered many years for the Carroll County Help Center, the Thrift Shop in Savanna, IL, the government Commodities Program and the Melon Days Association in Thomson. Ruth was a member of the Thomson United Methodist Church and a life member " 68 years " of the Thomson American Legion Auxiliary, where she served as past president. She was also a member of the Carroll County Legion Auxiliary . Her whole life was dedicated to service, her true passion in life was honoring and helping the disabled American Veteran. She often referred to them as her boys: red, white and blue, God Bless America. She is survived in death by one son, Richard (Angela) Turney; one granddaughter, Whitney (Mark) Blough; one great grandson, Miles Jacob Blough, one sister-in-law, Yvonne Simpson; one brother-in-law, Edgar Turney and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gail; two brothers and one sister-in-law.
