Obituary for Ruth Drolema-Hamstra
RUTH DROLEMA-HAMSTRA, 91, of 12342 Spring Valley Road, Morrison, IL, died Sunday, August 16, 2009 at her daughter"s home. Ruth was born June 11, 1918 in Carroll County, IL, to Jacob and Alice (Wiersema) Eissens. She was educated in the Park Hill Grade School in rural Carroll County. She married Peter Drolema on January 6, 1939 in Thomson, IL. He died January 25, 1967. She later married Marvin Hamstra on April 16, 1976 in Morrison, IL. He died March 9, 2009. Ruth was employed by Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison and later worked in the housekeeping department of the Morrison Community Hospital. She was a member of Spring Valley Reformed Church in Fulton, IL, where she was part of the Ladies Aid Society, a Sunday School teacher, and a Girls League leader. Ruth enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and socializing, while serving coffee to everyone. Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn (Arlyn) Huizenga of Morrison, IL; one step daughter, Ruth (Tony) Boom of Moline, IL; two step sons, Gerald (Esther) Hamstra and Keith (Joyce) Hamstra both of Morrison; twelve grandchildren, Linda Kuykendall, Doug (Michelle) Houzenga, Elizabeth (Bob) Barr, Steve (Andrea) Drolema, Kristy (Marvin) VanDerWiel, Mark Drolema, Jamie Drolema, Brenda (Kery) Abney, Mike (Jan) Huizenga, Lydia (Al) Ohlsen; Derrin (Cami) Huizenga, Lisa (Eric) Wiersema; twenty-seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and nine step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both husbands; one son, Robert Drolema; one son-in-law, Gordon Houzenga; two sisters, Elsie Houzenga and Hilda Houzenga; and two brothers, Henry and Charlie Eissens.
