Obituary for Robert W. Jones
ROBERT W. JONES, 95, of Fulton, IL, died Wednesday, January 17, 2018 in his home.
There will be a funeral Mass at 10:30 AM Monday, January 22, 2018 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fulton, with the Rev. Father Mathew Camaioni officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM Sunday, January 21, 2018 at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be in Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton. A memorial to the St. Vincent de Paul Society has been established.
Robert was born August 19, 1922, to James and Emma (McEntyre) Jones in Fulton. He was educated in the Fulton grade schools and he was a graduate of Fulton High School. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps, serving during WWII. He married Phyllis E. Cossman on June 15, 1946 in Fulton. She died May 3, 2016. Bob was employed by Collis Company in Clinton, IA for 19 years and at General Electric in Morrison, IL for 26 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fulton, the Knights of Columbus, Fulton Country Club, and the Rock River Bowling Association. He served as a member of the Fulton City Council and Park Board, and was a Little League Baseball coach. He was an avid outdoors man, and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He was a “die hard” Cubs fan. Through their caring nature, Bob and his wife, Phyllis, sponsored home summer visits for inner-city children. They also hosted military personnel from the Savanna Army Depot in their home for the holidays.
Survivors include four daughters, Allison (Larry) Garner of Thomson, IL, Madonna (Dennis) Gravert of Janesville, WI, Mary Rita Tiesman of Janesville, WI and Celeste Jones of Mesa, AZ; six sons, Michael (Winnie) Jones of Fulton, Tim (Barb) Jones of Fulton, Tom (Rachel) Jones of Thomson, IL, Joseph Jones of Rockford, IL, David Jones of Fulton and Robert C. Jones of Fulton; twenty-six grandchildren; forty-five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis; two grandchildren, Thomas Tiesman and Michael H. “Mikey” Jones; three great grandchildren, Chelsea Jones, Elena Gravert and Ezra Lesniewski; two brothers, James “Jimmy” Jones and Lawrence “Larry” Jones.
