Obituary for Robert John Bob Buikema
ROBERT JOHN "BOB" BUIKEMA, 83, of 1217 15th Avenue, Fulton, IL, died Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at the Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton, IA. Bob was born April 27, 1927, in Fulton, IL, to John C.J. and Katherine (Vander Schaaf) Buikema. He was educated in the Smith School in rural Fulton, and attended Fulton Community High School. He served in the US Army during WWII. Bob married Lucille J. Prins on June 24, 1949, in Fulton. He worked for his father as a teenager, delivering milk for the Buikema Dairy. He then worked at the Bennett Box Company in Clinton. After returning from the Army, he worked for awhile at Liquid Carbonic in Morrison, IL, and then worked for E.I. DuPont of Clinton for 36 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton. He served on the School Board for the Fulton Community Christian School, and was a member of the Fulton American Legion Post #402. Bob loved gardening, wood working, and yard work. He was an avid bird watcher. Survivors include his wife, Lucille; two daughters, Margaret (Robert) Norman of Clinton and Nancy Buikema of Fulton; two grandchildren, Rebecca (David) Green and Nathan Norman; one great granddaughter, Faith Green; one nephew, Kenneth (Donna) Buikema of Fulton. He was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Buikema; one nephew, Ronald Buikema.
