Obituary for Robert Groh
ROBERT J. GROH, 85, of Goshen, IN, formerly of Clinton, IA, died Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Greencroft Nursing Home in Goshen. Bob was born September 18, 1921 in Clinton, IA, to Fred and Pearl (Jordan) Groh. He was educated in the rural Whiteside County IL schools. He married Marian E. Rummel on April 24, 1942 in Garden Plain, IL. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Bob worked at Case Co. in Bettendorf, IA and he also farmed in the Morrison area for 12 years. He then owned and operated Bob"s Conoco Service Station in Clinton, IA for 20 years, retiring in 1983. He and his wife moved to Goshen, IN in 2003. He was a charter member of the American Legion Hanson-Kennedy Post 1079 in Albany, IL, and a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 9664 in Camanche, IA. Bob enjoyed skeet shooting. Survivors include his wife, Marian; two daughters, Marla (Curt) Bender of Elkhart, IN, Mary (Mark) Rettig of Eden Prairie, MN; one son, mark (Priscilla) Groh of Westminster, CA; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Groh of Fulton, IL; one step sister, June Enwright of Erie, IL. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lyman Groh; three sisters, Virginia Purvis, Irene Qualls, Beverly Hank.
