ROBERT A. SMITH, 81, of 10 Grove Street, Apt. #7, Prophetstown, IL, died Monday, August 4, 2008 at Morrison Community Hospital in Morrison, IL. Robert was born on August 20, 1926 in Castleton, IL to Fred E. and Orie (Weber) Smith. He attended Hooppole, IL schools. He married Mary L. Whipple on March 24, 1951 in East Moline, IL. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a tank driver. Robert farmed along with his wife in the rural Prophetstown, IL area. He was a member of the Leon United Methodist Church in Prophetstown, IL. He was a member of the Prophetstown Masonic Lodge Post #293 and Order of the Eastern Star Minerva Chapter No. 6 for 50 years. Robert was also a member of the Hooppole American Legion Post #1191. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou; three daughters, Sandra Smith of Moline, IL, Susan (Mrs. Chuck) Odquist of Brontson, KY, Bonnie (Mrs. Steve) Smith of Tampico, IL; one son, George Smith of Sanford, CN; four grandchildren, Nicole (Mrs. Gabe) Olinger, Angela (Mrs. Adam) Bollman, Ryan Smith, Tony Smith; two step grandchildren, Kelly Williams, Michael Odquist; five great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; five sisters, Mary Johnson of Sterling, IL, Wilma (Mrs. Robert) Wolfley of Polo, IL, Elma (Mrs. Donald) Wiltfang of Polo, IL, Betty (Mrs. Jim) Allen of Marceilles, IL, Dolores (Mrs. Marvin) Hougas of Ladd, IL; five brothers, Maurice (Darlene) Smith of Savanna, IL, Van (Connie) Smith of Freeport, IL, Fred (Jackie) Smith of Savanna, IL, Arnold (Wendy) Smith of Kewanee, IL, Richard (Nancy) Smith of Perry, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Janice Rodgers and one brother, Lawrence Smith.
