Obituary for Robert A. Bob Boelkins
ROBERT A. "BOB" BOELKINS, 83, of Morrison, IL, died Friday, April 1, 2011 at his home, surrounded by his family. Bob was born May 8, 1927 in Morrison, IL to Bernie and Gertrude (Buikema) Boelkins. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1945 to 1947 and witnessed the first atomic bomb tests at Bikini Atoll from the deck of a destroyer. Bob married Grace Van Zuiden on January 13, 1949 in Albany, IL. He farmed in the Whiteside County area from 1950 to 1971. He was then employed by 3M Corporation from 1971 until retiring in 1989. Bob also owned and operated Morrison Car Wash for several years. He was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church. He loved to travel, work in his yard, and most of all, he loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Grace; one daughter, Judy (Doug) Leech of Morrison; two sons, Richard (Diane) Boelkins and Randall (Linda) Boelkins both of Morrison, IL; eight grandchildren, Michelle (John) Moshure, Troy Leech, Sean Leech, Suzanne (Mike) Mills, Nathan (Julie) Boelkins, Jessica (Jim) White, Julie Vegter, Natasha Boelkins; ten great grandchildren, Tori Moshure, Collin Sanders, Shawn Michael Baker, Tailor Seydel, Jaxon Boelkins, Anabelle Boelkins, Carson White, Kinley White, Jordan Nailor, Jazzlyn Boelkins; one brother, Chester (Marian) Boelkins of Fulton, IL; and a sister-in-law, Josephine Boelkins of Chadwick, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Derek Sheldon Boelkins; one granddaughter, Sheila Vegter; and one brother, Bernard Boelkins.
