Obituary for Richard L. Dykstra
RICHARD L. DYKSTRA, 63, of 613 S. Genesee Street, Morrison, IL, died Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport, IA. Dick was born October 11, 1947 in Morrison, IL, to Jacob L. and Luella M. (Housenga) Dykstra. He was educated in the Lanark, IL grade schools and attended Pearl City High School in Pearl City, IL. Dick married Patricia A. Drane on June 1, 1974 in Freeport, IL. He was employed by the former Northwestern Steel and Wire Company in Sterling, IL in the 24 inch mill shipping department from 1971 to 2001. He then was employed by Rock River Lumber and Grain in Morrison, IL until retiring in December 2010. Dick was a member of Emmanuel Reformed Church in Morrison. He enjoyed the time spent using his John Deere lawn tractor and collecting John Deere collectibles. He took pleasure in attending various sporting events and cherished spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Pat; his mother, Luella (Elmer) Dykstra-Prins of Morrison, IL; three sons, Shawn Dykstra of Bettendorf, IA; Darren Dykstra of Bettendorf, IA; Brian (fianc"e Alexis Mettler) Dykstra of Davenport, IA; six grandchildren, Alli, Nick, Maggie, and Abby Dykstra; Mason and Annie Dykstra; one sister, Linda (Gerald) Schlegel of Morrison, IL; three brothers, Steve (Connie) Dykstra, Bruce (Denise) Dykstra, and Rick Dykstra all of Freeport, IL. He was preceded in death by his father.
