Obituary for Richard D. Burns
RICHARD D. "DICK" BURNS, 83, of Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clinton, IA formerly of Camanche, IA and Albany, IL, died Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the center. Dick was born January 17, 1927 in Albany, IL, to William D. and Laura V. (Sanders) Burns. He was educated in the Albany Grade Schools, attended the Erie and Morrison High Schools and was a 1944 graduate of Clinton High School in Clinton, IA. Dick was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during WWII and the Korean War. He married Norma R. Bultema on December 28, 1950 in Fulton, IL. She died September 25, 1995. He later married Doris (Gray) Halsrud on June 21, 1997 in Albany, IL. She died February 28, 2007. Dick was employed by General Electric in Morrison, IL for 35 years from 1952 until retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Albany United Methodist Church, the Albany American Legion-Hanson/Kennedy Post #1079 and was a past commander. He was a member of various camping clubs and enjoyed camping, gardening, playing shuffle board, dancing, and playing cards. Survivors include four daughters, Sandy (Jim) Jones of Fulton, IL; Carolyn Dolph of Albany, IL; Sherri Burns of Thomson, IL; and Lauri (Ron) Droback of Fulton, IL; two sons, Gary (Sheryl) Burns of Albany, IL and William "Bill" (Susan) Burns of Cordova, IL; one step daughter, Deb (Duane) Wiese of Camanche, IA; four grandchildren, Brandi Burns, Bill (Christina) Burns, Jaime and Julie Aude; three step grandchildren, Danielle (Justin) Sampson, Steven Wiese, and Amanda (Joseph) De La Cruz; two great grandchildren, Hannah Phelps and Brady Burns; two step great grandchildren, Jacoby Sampson and Joseph De La Cruz, Jr.; two sisters, Sylvia Buikema of Albany, IL and Norma Naftzger of Phoenix, AZ; and one brother, Harold "Bud" (Ardith) Burns of Albany, IL. He was preceded in death by his two wives, Norma Burns and Doris Halsrud-Burns; one sister, Alice Wray; and one brother in infancy.
