Obituary for Raymond Meurs
RAYMOND MEURS, 83, of 703 16th Avenue, Fulton, IL, died Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Mercy Living Center South in Clinton, IA. Ray was born December 25, 1925 in Long Island, KS, to Elmer and Nellie (Verhoef) Meurs. He was educated in the Long Island, KS and rural Morrison, IL grade schools. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He married Alva Jean Temple on December 6, 1946 in Fulton, IL. Ray had worked at Liquid Carbonic in Morrison, and AGRICO in Fulton. He also was employed as a carpenter at Ringland Johnson Construction of Clinton, IA for 40 years. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, where he served as a deacon and an elder. During the early 1980"s, Ray served as an Alderman for the city of Fulton. He was a member of Carpenters Local #772 of Clinton, IA. Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. Survivors include his wife, Alva Jean; one daughter, Sandra Jean (Walter) Gorzney of Morrison, IL; three sons, Jimmie Lee (Becky) Meurs of Davenport, IA, John Ray (Deborah) Meurs of Garden Plain, IL, and Scott Dale (Dawn) Meurs of Morrison, IL; five grandchildren, Brian Gorzney, Kelly (Andrew) Dykstra, Allison Meurs, Stacy and Cassandra Meurs; two great grandchildren, Bailey and Landon Dykstra; two step-grandchildren, Erica (Brian) Meunier and Nate (Robin) Hege; four step-great greandchildren, Britney and Christopher Meunier, Jasmine and Ivey Hege; two brothers, Henry Meurs of Fulton, IL and Wayne (Lois) Meurs of Colorado. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Edward and Clarence Meurs; and one sister, Geneva Stuart.
