Obituary for R. Stanley Maxfield
R. STANLEY MAXFIELD, 90, of 306 N. Jackson Street, Morrison, IL, died Friday, March 9, 2012 at Morrison Community Hospital. Stanley was born October 18, 1921, in Prophetstown, IL, to Rollin H. and Mabel Ruth (Wysong) Maxfield. He was educated in the Prophetstown grade schools and graduated from Prophetstown High School in 1939. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. Stanley married Phyllis A. Hillmer on April 10, 1943, in Americus, GA. He owned and operated Sand & Maxfield, a plumbing and heating company in Morrison. In 1951 he went to work for General Electric Co. in Morrison, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Morrison United Methodist Church, where he made crosses for the confirmation classes with the nails from the original church building. He was a member of the Boy Scouts, serving as an institutional representative, and also on the Boy Scout Council. He was a member of the Whiteside County Forum and the United Way, where he was treasurer for many years. He was a member of the Morrison American Legion Post #328, the Morrison Historical Society, the Henry County Genealogical Society and the Belgian Cultural Center, in Moline, IL. Stanley enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, woodworking, and refinishing furniture. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; three daughters, Marcia (William) Morris of Moline, IL, Mrs. Nancy Carlson of Geneseo, IL, Janet (Thomas) Beveroth of Morrison, IL; five sons, Barry (Dorothy) Maxfield of Merrill, WI, Brian (Roberta) Maxfield of DeKalb, IL, Paul Maxfield and Vaughn (Martina) Maxfield, both of Morrison, IL, Phillip (Anita) Maxfield of Leesburg, GA; sixteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Maxfield; one brother, Perry Maxfield.
