Obituary for Phyllis M. Halfman
PHYLLIS M. HALFMAN, 79, of Mt. Carroll, IL, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at FHN Hospital in Freeport, IL. Phyllis was born August 30, 1934, in Chadwick, IL to Fred L. and Wilma Cleone (Wade) Miller. She was educated in the Mission Ridge and Sand Ridge grade schools of rural Carroll County, and was a graduate of York Community High School in Thomson, IL. Phyllis married Eugene C. Halfman on June 7, 1953 in Savanna, IL. She was first employed by General Electric in Morrison, IL and later for Eaton Corporation in Savanna, IL, retiring in 1988. Phyllis was a life time member of the York Community Church in Thomson, and served as the church"s mission committee chairperson. She was a member and past president of the Thomson PTA and was known as civic and community minded. Phyllis enjoyed flower gardening, canning, cross-stitching, reading, arts, crafts and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Gene; three daughters, Cindy (Gary) Williams of Hendersonville, TN, Denise Harmon of Naperville, IL and Darci Halfman of Hendersonville, TN; two sons, Tim (Sue) Halfman of Winslow, NJ and Todd (Amy) Halfman of Edwardsville, IL; fourteen grandchildren, Mikel Williams, Tyler Williams, Kyle Williams, Katie (Billy) Wales, Abbi (Ben) Togtman, Cara Halfman, Dan Ritchie, Jaclyn Ritchie, Michael Harmon, Sara Swango, Alexandra Halfman, Jordan Halfman, Jacob Halfman, Adrienne Halfman; five great grandchildren, Averie Wales, Roscoe Togtman, Paige Funk, Vinny Funk, Sami Funk; two sisters, Iris Eye of Thomson, IL and Janice Brunner of Thomson, IL; two brothers, Ivan (Barb) Miller of Milledgeville, IL and Richard (Karen) Miller of Thomson, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Carol Bielema.
