Obituary for Phyllis I. Dykstra
PHYLLIS I. DYKSTRA, 89, of the Alverno Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton, IA; formerly of Fulton, IL, died Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the Alverno.Phyllis was born September 15, 1927, in Fulton, IL, to Evert and Anna (Fisher) Geerts. She was educated in the Fulton Grade School and was a graduate of Fulton High School. She married Sebert Bud H. Dykstra on September 16, 1946 in Fulton. He died May 18, 2010. In her early years Phyllis was employed at Kregars Five and Dime Store, Stroedickes Bakery, Burpee Seed and Joyce Lumber Company. She was a homemaker. Phyllis was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton where she was a member and officer of the Rebecca Society. She participated in Harbor Crest Auxiliary, was a member of TOPS Club in Thomson, IL and belonged to the Whiteside County Farm Bureau. Phyllis enjoyed traveling, was an avid reader, and enjoyed attending her children and grandchildrens sporting events. Memorials to the First Christian Reformed Church and Unity Christian Schools have been established.Survivors include one daughter, Melissa J. (Dan) Medendorp of Fulton, IL; six sons, Ronald E. (Marcia) Dykstra of Thomson, IL, Kenneth D. (Debra) Dykstra of Fulton, IL, Roger L. (Gayle) Dykstra of Thomson, IL, Ernie P. (Paula) Dykstra of Thomson, IL, Sammy J. (Ruby) Dykstra of Mt. Carroll, IL and Mark A. (Ann) Dykstra of Thomson, IL; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Arlene Keller of Morrison, IL; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Geerts of Albany, IL.Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Sebert; one son, in infancy; one granddaughter, Angie Dykstra; one great grandson, Isaac Dykstra; two brothers, Marvin and Leonard Geerts.
