Obituary for Phyllis A. Near
PHYLLIS A. NEAR, 48, of 5592 Shafer Road, Fulton, IL, died Friday, January 9, 2009 at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Phyllis was born April 5, 1960, in Clinton, IA to William E. and Marie (Roberts) Burkhardt. She was educated in the Fulton Grade Schools and was a 1978 graduate of Fulton High School. She attended Black Hawk Community College in Moline, IL. She married Larry D. Near on April 12, 1980 in Fulton. Phyllis was first employed as an orthodontia assistant for Dr. David Shrody, DDS in Clinton. Later, she was employed as a dental assistant for Dr. Bill Wilkin, DDS in Fulton. She most recently was employed as a computer aide at the River Bend Middle School in Fulton. Phyllis was a member of the Fulton Presybterian Church where she was currently serving as an elder. She was also a member of the Fulton Country Club. She enjoyed cross stitching and attending River Bend athletic events. Survivors include her husband, Larry; three sons, Joshua (Kimberly) Near of Little Elm, TX; Justin (Tara) Near of Tulsa, OK; and Jordan Near of Fulton, IL; two grandchildren, Carson Haynie and Ryne Near; her mother, Mrs. Marie Burkhardt of Fulton, IL; one sister, Frieda McLuckie of Cedar Rapids, IA; and one brother, Bill (Patricia) Burkhardt of Tulsa, OK. She was preceded in death by her father.
