Obituary for Phyllis A. Geerts
PHYLLIS A. GEERTS, 81, of Albany, IL, died Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Allure of Prophetstown, Illinois.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at the Albany United Methodist Church, with Pastor Toni Lucas of the Albany United Methodist Church officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, January 20, 2020 at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be in Lusk Memorial Cemetery in Albany. A memorial to the Albany United Methodist Church has been established.
Phyllis was born March 8, 1938, in Erie, IL, to Henry and Effie (Brondyke) Dornbush. She was educated in the Fenton, Illinois Grade School and was a 1956 graduate of Erie High School. She married Leonard P. Geerts Sr. on October 4, 1957 in Fulton, IL. He died on August 3, 2007. Phyllis was employed for 33 years by the Riverbend School District as a cook at the Albany Grade School. She was a member of the Albany United Methodist Church had served on the church’s Board of Trustees. She also was a member and past president of the church’s United Methodist Women, taught Sunday school and was a Cub Scout den mother. Phyllis enjoyed camping and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Leo (Deb) Geerts of Fulton, David (Julie) Geerts of Fulton and Wayne (Julie) Geerts of Albany; six grandchildren, Jason (Amy) Heyvaert, Wyatt (Ann) Heyvaert, Tyler (Jamie) Geerts, Tatum (Joe) Wiersema, Byron Geerts and Korbin Geerts; eight great grandchildren, Ella and Eli Heyvaert, Grace and Tinley Heyvaert, Rhett and Mallori Wiersema, Keegan and Kendall Geerts; two brothers, Lester (Julia) Dornbush of Fulton and Allen P. Dornbush of Albany; one brother-in-law, David Ottens of Morrison, IL and three honorary grandchildren Amanda Abbott, Chuck Milem and Chase Milem.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; five sisters, Sharon Ottens, Helen Port, Kathryn Dornbush, Audrey Sikkema and Shirley Dornbush in infancy; two brothers, Eugene and Harlan Dornbush; two sisters-in-law, Catherine Dornbush and Betty Dornbush; one brother-in-law, Kenneth Port.
