Obituary for Phillip T. DeWeerdt
PHILLIP T. DEWEERDT, 74, of Morrison, IL, died Thursday, September 14, 2017 at St. Anthonys Medical Center in Rockford, IL.Phil was born December 10, 1942 in Clinton, IA, to Jacob and Bernice E. (Luett) DeWeerdt. He was a graduate of Fulton High School in Fulton, IL, and went on to graduate from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. He married Susan Cousins in Elvira, IA; they later divorced. He was employed as a pipefitter with the Local Millwright Union #2158 of Bettendorf, IA. He attended Morrison United Methodist Church with his significant other, Judy Rus. Phil enjoyed boating, golfing, traveling, and most of all, spending time with family. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan.Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Holstein of Camanche, IA; one son, Matthew (Jill) DeWeerdt of West Des Moines, IA; six grandchildren, Travis (Chelsea) Gruhn, Dustin (Bree Meyers) Gruhn, Mason and Emma Holstein, Lawson and Paige DeWeerdt; two great grandchildren, Liam and Logan Gruhn; his significant other, Judy Rus; Judys children, Dan (Donna) Rus of Morrison, IL, Jeff (Barb) Rus of Grand Mound, IA and Darrin (Teri) Rus of Morrison, IL; twelve of Judys grandchildren and three of her great grandchildren.Phil was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Teresa Jo Sargent.

CREMATION RITES HAVE BEEN ACCORDED MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11:00 A.M. Saturday September 23, 2017 at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home OFFICIATING: Rev. Ryan Sutton, Pastor of Morrison United Methodist Church MEMORIAL VISITATION: 9:30 A.M. Saturday September 23, 2017 until the time of the service.
