Obituary for Philip I. Jansma
PHILIP I. JANSMA, 76, of Morrison, IL, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Trinity Rock Island in Rock Island, Illinois. Phil was born June 9, 1937, in Morrison, IL, to Herman and Eleanor (Dykstra) Jansma. He was educated in the Prairie Center Grade School of rural Whiteside County and was a 1955 graduate of Morrison High School in Morrison, IL. He attended Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, IL. He served in the Illinois National Guard. Phil married Faye Norman on February 27, 1959, in Morrison, IL. He was employed by Brands Heating and Cooling in Morrison; General Electric in Morrison, Air Control in Clinton, IA, and most recently for John Deere Davenport Works retiring in 2008. For 30 years, he custom combined with local farmers. Phil was a 50 year member of the Emmanuel Reformed Church in Morrison and served as an elder, deacon, and Sunday School teacher. He served as member and president of the Resthave Home board of directors. Phil enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears and Cubs and coaching his daughter"s softball teams for 18 years. His hobbies were farming, fishing, and collecting miniature John Deere tractors. He also loved doing everything with and for his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Faye; three daughters, Ellen (Eric) Anderson of Prophetstown, IL; Gwen (Steve) Baar of Morrison, IL; and Jaclyn (Mark) Claerhout of Geneseo, IL; eight grandchildren, Amanda (J.R.) Curtis, Devon (Mallory) Baar, Nickolas (Brianne Snowden) Anderson, Mitchel Baar, Neil (Samantha Johnston) Baar, Kari Anderson, Morgan Claerhout and Greyson Claerhout; five great-grandchildren, Faith, Drake, Trevor, Dezarae, and Jaxon; one sister, Lori (Norm) Jensen of Decatur, IL; three brothers, Gene Jansma of Morrison, IL; Ken (Glenda) Jansma of Fulton, IL; and Calvin Jansma of Ashland, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Ashley Claerhout; two brothers, David and Orville Jansma.
