Pearl A. Ven Huizen, 88, of Gowrie, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Friendship Haven.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018 at United Methodist Church, Gowrie, IA with Pastor Susan Rohden officiating. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. TODAY Friday, April 27, 2018 at Palmer & Sons Funeral Home, Gowrie, IA. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2018 in Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton IL with Pastor Shannon Parrish officiating. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2018 at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, Fulton, IL.
Pearl is survived by her son, Kenneth Jr. (Karla) Ven Huizen of Sheldon; daughter, Colleen (Ned) Palmer of Gowrie; grandchildren, Jacob Ven Huizen, Libby Ven Huizen, Scott Palmer and Jill (Lee) White; great-grandchildren, Bridget White and Madi White; sisters, Carol (Janvrin) Faber of Fulton, IL and Evelyn Prins of Clinton; brothers, Leslie (Ruth) Prins of Fulton, IL and Burton (Kathie) Prins of Thomson, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Pherna (Geerts) Prins; husband, Kenneth Ven Huizen; brothers, LeRoy Prins, Howard Prins and Merle Prins.
Pearl A. Ven Huizen was born December 31, 1929 in Thomson, IL. She was raised and educated in Thomson; graduating from Thomson High School in 1947. She was employed at Fidelity Life Insurance in Fulton. On January 13, 1950, Pearl was united in marriage to Kenneth Ven Huizen. The couple established their home and farmed in the Garden Plain area for 10 years. They then moved to Fulton. Pearl operated Ken’s Shoe Service for several years, then worked 20 years for Ben Franklin until retiring in 1994. Pearl was very active in the Newton Zion Reformed Church and served on the Board of the Christian Women’s Club. She served on the Fulton Community Fund Board as Door to Door Chairman and Fulton Chairman of the American Cancer Fund Drive for many years. In 1997, Ken and Pearl moved to Gowrie. Pearl is a member of the United Methodist Church, UMW and Gideons Auxiliary.
Memorials may be left to the United Methodist Church, Gowrie, Gideon’s, Alzheimer’s Association and the American Heart Association.
