Obituary for Pauline Wiersema
Pauline Wiersema, 99, a life-long resident of Fulton, Illinois, passed away at Allure of
Prophetstown, Illinois, on February 9, 2021.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 24, 2021, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, preceded by a visitation that begins at 10:00 AM. Officiating will be Pastor Richard Rambo, associate pastor at Full Gospel Church of Centerpoint, LA. Interment will be at the Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton, IL. A memorial has been established to Full Gospel Church of Centerpoint, P.O. Box 102, Centerpoint, LA 71323.
Pauline was the oldest of nine children born to Harold R. and Gertrude (Kooi) Abbott. She was a 1939 graduate of Fulton High School. After graduation she worked at Fidelity Life Association in Fulton. She married Maurice J. “Moose” Wiersema on April 25, 1941. While her husband served in the U.S. Army in the European theater during World War II, Pauline worked at Schick Hospital in Clinton, Iowa, walking the Lyons Bridge each day from Fulton to work. Pauline enjoyed fishing in Minnesota, golfing, bird watching, playing the piano, and attending to her lush flower gardens. In her later years, she enjoyed visiting both her Louisiana and Illinois grandchildren. She was a tea-partying, BB gun-shooting, not-afraid-to-get-dirty kind of grandma. One of her greatest joys was her relationship with her brothers and sisters, who not only shared memories and meals but assisted with her care in her later years. Pauline was a member of the former Second Reformed Church of Fulton, where she served on many committees and taught Sunday School. She was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Den Mother when her children were young. She was a life-long member of the Fulton Country Club.
Survivors include her daughter Maureen Oblanc of Baton Rouge, LA, son Brian (Jan) Wiersema of Cherokee, IA, son Philip (Kathy) Wiersema of Prophetstown; grandchildren Richard (Bridgette), Courtney (Craig) and Drew; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters Mrs. Jane Webber of Fulton, Mrs. Nancy Proulx of Florida, Mrs. Barbara Krick of Camanche, IA, brother Bruce Abbott of Clinton, IA, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Maurice, her granddaughter Sherrye Willbanks, her son-in-law Larry Oblanc, and brothers Robert, Art, and Richard Abbott, sister Betty Hancock, and several sisters-and brothers-in-law.
