Obituary for Pauline M. Meakins
PAULINE M. MEAKINS, 98, of Wheat Ridge, CO, formerly of Morrison, IL, died Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Miller Place in Wheat Ridge, CO. Pauline was born August 28, 1908 in Ustick Township of Whiteside County to Joseph and Rozena (Rick) Gorzny. She was educated in the Robinson Grade School of rural Whiteside County, and graduated from Morrison High School. She married Clare W. Meakins, a well-known livestock dealer, on January 8, 1927 in Coleta, IL. He died October 12, 1978. She worked at Rich"s Toy Factory in Morrison during the early 1930"s, and then became a homemaker. She also drove a school bus for R.C. Smith Transportation for 25 years. In 1999, Pauline left Morrison to live with her son in Colorado. She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose and the Morrison Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons. She enjoyed riding her horse, Tillie, on trail rides with her husband Clare, and in local parades. She played the piano and organ and was known for her beautiful flower garden. Survivors include one son, Keith (Doris) Meakins of Wheat Ridge, CO; one grandson, Bruce K. Meakins of Denver, CO; one brother, Francis T. Gorzny of Idyllwild, CA; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clare; four brothers, Joseph Lloyd, Eugene, Bernard and Vernon Gorzny.
