Obituary for Otto Van Vuren
OTTO VAN VUREN, 92, of 17070 Ebson Road, Fulton, IL, died Sunday, May 20, 2007 at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton. Otto was born in Fulton, IL on April 13, 1915. His parents were Peter and Alice Stuit Van Vuren. He grew up in the rural Fulton area and attended Fulton schools. He served in the Civil Conservation Corps in 1933, in the state of Oregon. He was an U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving as a lineman in the Signal Corps . He was stationed on the Island of Guam for a year. Otto married Thelma Dykhuizen on March 31, 1943 in Fulton. He was employed by the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad for 35 years as a carman, retiring in 1977. He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, and was a 60 year member of American Legion Post 402 in Fulton. He belonged to the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen - #6429. Survivors include his wife, Thelma; one daughter, Rheba (Mrs. Darwyn) Guler of Rockford, IL; two sons, Stephen Van Vuren of Clinton, IA and Russel Van Vuren of Henderson, NV; five grandchildren, Daniel Van Vuren, Natalie (Ryan) Jackson, Dana (Peter) Dlugosch, Andrew Guler and Christopher Van Vuren; two great grandchildren, Jacob and Molly Ann Jackson; one sister, Mrs. Mae Neubauer of Clinton, IA; one brother, Robert (Viola) Van Vuren of River Forest, IL; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Alvin Van Vuren.
