Obituary for Norman L. Wessels
NORMAN L. WESSELS, 85, of Clinton, IA, died Friday, July 19, 2013, at Mercy Living Center South, Clinton, IA. Norm was born December 27, 1927, in Fulton, IL, to Mathew A. and Gertrude N. (Norman) Wessels. He was educated in the Fulton Grade Schools and was a graduate of Fulton High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He married Donna M. Drews on August 4, 1951, in Fulton, IL. Norm was first employed by Clinton Engineering and later he worked for Foley Construction in Clinton, IA, until retiring in 1993. Norm was a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, IL. He was a 50 year member of Laborers Union Local 244 in Clinton, IA and Local 43 in Cedar Rapids, IA. He was a 50 year member of the Fulton American Legion Post #402. Norm enjoyed fishing, gardening, bird watching, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Survivors include his wife, Donna; two daughters, Lynn (Paul) Cosman of Toddville, IA, and Dawn (Robert) Goodridge of Clinton, IA; two sons, Loren (Fran) Wessels of Phoenix, AZ, and Scott (Lois Spalding) Wessels of Clinton, IA; six grandchildren, Angela (Larry) Biles, Shaun (Amy) Willits, Jeremy (Julia) Wessels, Katy (Luie) Ugarte, Joshua Dolph, Kimberly (Adam Mueller) Wessels; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Holesinger of Fulton, IL and Kathe (Jack) Burns of Fenton, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Amy Lynn Willits; two sisters, Gladys Miller and Maxine Hess; two brothers, Dale Wessels and James Wessels.
