Obituary for Myrna B. Dykstra
MYRNA B. DYKSTRA, 87, of Fulton, IL, died Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with Rev. Kevin VerHoeven, Pastor of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton officiating. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Fulton Chapel. Interment will be in the Fulton Township Cemetery. A memorial to Mercy Home Care and Hospice, Clinton, IA, has been established.
Myrna was born March 5, 1931 in Fulton, to Peter C. and Effie (Bielema) Vogel. She was educated in the Fulton Christian School and was a graduate of Fulton High School. She married Sidney P. Dykstra on November 10, 1950 in Fulton. He died April 18, 2004. Myrna was first employed by Fidelity Life Insurance in Fulton. She then worked as a nurse’s aide at Harbor Crest Nursing Home and was a bookkeeper for Heusinkveld Electric, and later Balk Electric, both of Fulton. She was a lifetime member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton where she was a Sunday school teacher. She belonged to the church’s Rebecca Society where she served as president and treasurer, and also served on the church’s library committee. Myrna was an election judge for 23 years and volunteered at the Bloodmobile and the Fulton Food Pantry. She enjoyed cross stitching, reading and traveling with her husband, Sidney. She was an avid Cubs Fan. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Sheila (Paul) Thompson and Laurie (John) Boock, both of Clinton, IA; one son, Kevin (Beth) Dykstra of Geneseo, IL; eight grandchildren, Eric (Jenn) Thompson, Andrea (Ken) Doss, Kelly (Brian) Miller, Lyndsay (Gabe) Whitaker, Shannon (Matt) Luchterhand, Ryan (Betsy) Dykstra, Stephanie (Eric) Cathelyn, Amanda (David) Braun; seventeen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney; one brother, Robert G. Vogel.
