Obituary for Merle G. Clark
MERLE G. CLARK, 85, of 14840 Elk Road, Fulton, IL, died Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton, IA. Merle was born February 25, 1922, in Gilman, WI, to Lester and Gladys Clark. He attended Bagley, WI grade schools and graduated from Bagley High School. He attended Platteville Teachers College in Platteville, WI. He married Frances Mielke and later married Marguerite Norman Sikkema on January 24, 1991 in Fort Meyers, FL. After moving to Savanna in 1942 with his parents, he worked at the Savanna Army Depot in Savanna, IL. He retired from Collis Co. in Clinton, IA. After retirement he drove for R.C. Smith Transportation in Morrison, IL. He was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, the KAABA Oriental Band and the Emulation Masonic Lodge #255, both in Clinton, IA. Merle was an accomplished musician and could play guitar, banjo, bass and drums. He started his first band at the age of 16 in Bagley, WI. Throughout his life he played with many different bands and enjoyed them all. He was also an avid outdoors and sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, baseball and basketball. His constant smile and sense of humor will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Marguerite, three daughters, Kay (Mrs. Jim) Allain of San Diego, CA, Linda (Mrs. Bob) Dirks and Peggy (Mrs. Dan) Keis, both of Clinton, IA; two sons, Donald Clark of Sabula, IA and James Clark of Clinton, IA; one step daughter, Dawn Sikkema of Rogers, AR; three step sons, Roger (Laura) Sikkema of Fulton, IL, William (Annette) Sikkema of Clinton, IA and Randall (Luan) Sikkema of Albany, IL; fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; six step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Mark Brown; one granddaughter, Tami Clark.
