Obituary for Merle D. Prins
MERLE DUANE PRINS, 78, of 2776 Scenic Bluff Road, Thomson, IL, died Friday, December 2, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center East, Davenport, IA. Merle was born January 8, 1933 in Thomson, IL, to Albert and Pherna (Geerts) Prins. He was educated in the Thomson grade schools and was a graduate of Thomson High School. Merle married Delores Y. "Suzie" Ihne on October 3, 1952 in Thomson. She died August 23, 2010. He was engaged in farming in the Thomson area for his entire life. Merle was a member of Thomson United Methodist Church and the Carroll County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed bowling, playing fast pitch and slow pitch softball, hunting, and refereed grade and high school basketball. Survivors include seven daughters, Debra (Peter) Wroblewski of Pasadena, TX; Sandra (Don) Simmons of Bettendorf, IA; Patricia (Kim) Miller of Milledgeville, IL; Barbara Oney of Pinckneyville, IL; Teresa (Mitch) Clowers of Nebo, IL; Laura Storjohann of Calamus, IA, and Melissa Schnoor of Camanche, IA; three sons, Gary (Sue) Prins of Thomson, IL; David (Marcia) Prins of Clinton, IA and Michael (Diane) Prins of Clinton, IA; twenty-five grandchildren; thirteen step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; thirteen step great grandchildren; three step great great grandchildren; three sisters, Pearl VenHuizen of Orange City, IA; Carol (Janvrin) Faber of Fulton, IL and Evelyn Prins of Clinton, IA; three brothers, Leroy (Joyce) Prins of Chicago, IL; Leslie (Ruth) Prins of Fulton, IL and Burton (Kathy) Prins of Thomson, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores; two sons-in-law, Gene Storjohann and Forrest Oney; and one brother, Howard Prins.
