Obituary for Melvin L. Decker
MELVIN L. DECKER, 81, of Mercy Living Center North, Clinton, IA, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Monday March 14, 2016 at Mercy Living Center North.Mel was born June 1, 1934, in rural Morrison, IL, to Isaac and Gladys E. (Imel) Decker. He was educated in the Thomson High School and was a graduate of York Community High School, in Thomson, IL. On July 15, 1955, he married Evelyn J. Temple in Fulton. She died October 12, 1989. He later married Shirley B. Peterson-Brown on January 4, 1991 in Fulton. She died February 22, 2015. Mel was first employed by Fulton Corporation in Fulton and later by General Electric Co. in Morrison. He attended York Baptist Church in Thomson and enjoyed camping, woodworking and traveling. Mel was an avid bird watcher.Survivors include two daughters, Sally (Marty) Mussmann of Clinton, IA and Charlene (Todd) Klavenga of Fulton, IL; one son, Rodney (Coral) Decker of Albany, IL; two step-daughters, Christine (Ron) Sour of Thomson, IL and Connie (Gary) Morris of Clinton, IA; one step son, David (Janet) Brown of Moline, IL; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; twenty-one step grandchildren; thirty-one step great-grandchildren; ten step great-great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Evelyn and second wife, Shirley.
