Obituary for Mary L. Medema
MARY L. MEDEMA, 86, of Fulton, IL, died Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at her home. Mary was born October 15, 1926, in Albany, IL, to Lee and Belle (Tucker) Sharer. She was educated in the Albany School District. Her first marriage was to Harold R. Huizenga. Her second marriage was to Alvin R. Medema. He died April 7, 1984. Mary was first employed by General Electric in Morrison, IL. She later worked for Lord Baltimore Press in Clinton, IA, and then returned to General Electric. Mary attended Church of the Open Door in Clinton, IA. She was a member of the Fulton American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Mary enjoyed camping, house boating, and attending the regular monthly family get-togethers. Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Sullivan of Fulton, IL; Donna Gassman of Norwalk, IA; and Linda Huizenga of Fulton, IL; one son, Rick Medema of Fulton, IL; ten grandchildren, Jeff (Dorie) Sullivan, Teresa (Ken) Eschbach, Kerri (Jeremy) Kuehl, Pam Houser, Scott (Chandra) Shaw, Melisa (Mark) Dutton, Jennifer (Tim) Davidson, Laura (Jeff) Gray, Courtney (Steve) Boonstra, and Taylor Medema; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gerald (Evelyn) Sharer of Fulton, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin; one son, Harold James "Jimmy" Huizenga; one great-granddaughter, Julie Donna Shaw; one sister, Katherine Bell Williams; two brothers, Lloyd "Cork" Sharer and in infancy, Warren Sharer.
