Obituary for Mary Alice Morphew
Mary Alice Morphew, 92, of Prophetstown, IL, died Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Anam Care, Inc. in Rockford, IL.
The funeral service will be at 11:30 AM Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at the Prophetstown United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Chelsey Weech, Pastor of First Lutheran Church in Prophetstown. A visitation will precede the service, starting at 10:00 AM. The Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Interment is at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the “Jane Morphew Special Needs Trust”.
Mary was born August 4, 1929 in Sterling, IL, to Harold and Alverdie (Anderson) Emmitt. She was a 1947 graduate of Rock Falls High School in Rock Falls, IL. On January 29, 1950 she married Billy F. Morphew in Rock Falls. He died on August 26, 2011. Mary worked as a payroll clerk at International Harvester in Rock Falls for a few years. Mary’s primary roles for her lifetime were mother, housewife and farmwife. She was a member of the Prophetstown United Methodist Church and had been active in church circles and committees. She was also a member of the West Hume Ladies Club. Mary enjoyed a variety of crafting projects, including painting, ceramics, sewing, upholstering, knitting, and crocheting. She also enjoyed swimming and traveling.
She is survived by her brood: Barry (Jo Ellen) Morphew – Prophetstown, IL; Rita Morphew – Annawan, IL; Jane Ann Morphew – Roscoe, IL; Christy (Ric) Nickerson – East Mesa, AZ; Fay (Randy) Requet – Peoria, AZ; Billie Jo (David) Pickering – Roscoe, IL. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Nick (Gina) Morphew, Carrie Fairbanks, Daniel Birdsley, Eric Barnhart, Eran (Aubre) Barnhart, Evan (Adriana) Barnhart, Emily (Aaron) Starnes, Shawn Requet, Christopher (Kahli) Requet and Alexa Johnson; nineteen great grandchildren; one sister, Lois Deetz – Rock Falls, IL; one sister-in-law, Barb Morphew – Silvis, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bill; one brother, Bill Emmitt; two brothers-in-law, Marvin Deetz and Don Morphew; one sister-in-law, Juanita (Joe) Meidl.
