Obituary for Marvin Tegeler
MARVIN TEGELER, 89, of Sterling, IL, formerly of Chadwick, IL, died Thursday, May 5, 2011 at his daughter"s home in Sterling, IL. Marvin was born September 22, 1921 in Fenton, IL, to Martin and Winnie (Tervelt) Tegeler. He was educated in the Bunker Hill School of rural Whiteside County, IL. Marvin married Catherine E. Rus on December 29, 1944 in Erie, IL. She died May 16, 2005. Marvin engaged in farming in the Thomson and Chadwick, IL areas. He later worked as a self employed carpenter and owned and operated Tegeler Construction. Marvin was a member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, IL and a former member of the First Reformed Church in Fulton, IL, where he served as an elder and Sunday School teacher. Marvin enjoyed fishing, coin collecting, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also an avid Cubs fan. Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl (Roger) Dykema of Sterling, IL; one son, Eugene "Gene" (Marrieann) Tegeler of Lake Forest, IL; two grandchildren, Jason (Dory) Dykema and Wesley "Wes" Dykema; three sisters, Ann Schaver of Morrison, IL, Bernice Tegeler of Winnebago, NE, and Pauline Wherry of Sterling, IL; two brothers, Raymond (Mary) Tegeler of Fenton, IL and Lawrence (Edna Mae) Tegeler of Fulton, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine; two sisters, Theresa Ven Huizen and Cornelia "Kate" Ottens; seven brothers, Kenneth, Henry, Maynard, John, Ben, Clarence, and Louis Tegeler.
