Obituary for Marvin L. Pete Simpson
MARVIN L. PETE SIMPSON, 83, of Fulton, IL, died Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA.Pete was born May 29, 1933, in Alton, IL, to John F. and Helen (Everett) Simpson. He was educated in the Liberty Grade School in Woodburn, IL and was a 1952 graduate of Bunker Hill High School in Bunker Hill, IL. He attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. He married Mevel King on February 10, 1955 in Alton. He served in the U. S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Division. Pete was employed as an insulator for the Asbestos Workers of America Local #81, Cedar Rapids, IA. He was a former member of Trinity Reformed Church in Fulton, where he served as a deacon; currently he is a member of the Fulton Presbyterian Church. Pete was active with the Boy Scouts for many years and was an avid Fulton Steamer fan. He was a former miller at the Fulton Windmill.Survivors include one daughter, Pam (John) Hyziak of Des Plaines, IL; one son, Kent (Tracy) Simpson of Albany, IL; two grandchildren, Alicia Simpson and Kristin Simpson; one great grandchild, Leium McIntosh; one sister, Thelma King of Rockford, IL.He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Pearl Watkins; four brothers, James H. and Lloyd T. Simpson in infancy, John F. Simpson Jr. and Melvin Simpson.
