Obituary for Martha Ann Kiger
MARTHA ANN KIGER, 81, of Fulton, IL, died Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at her home.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 A.M. Monday, January 8, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fulton, with Rev. Father Matthew Camaioni officiating. A visitation will be held from 2:00 – 5:00 P.M. Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be in Calvary Hill Cemetery in Fulton.

Martha was born March 17, 1936, in Clinton, IA, to Lee L. and Grace M. (Mulligan) Abbott. She was educated in Our Lady of Angel Academy in Clinton, IA and was a 1954 graduate of Fulton High School. She went on to receive a nursing degree from St. Francis Nursing School in Danville, IL. Martha married Russell W. Kiger on June 15, 1957 in Fulton. He died July 13, 2016. She was first employed as a registered nurse for Mercy Hospital in Clinton and then worked at the practice of Dr. M. J. Vruno M.D. in Fulton. Most recently she worked for the American Red Cross in Peoria, IL. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and served on the church’s Altar and Rosary Society. She had also served as the church’s funeral luncheon coordinator, and was a past member of the Clinton County Medical Assistants. Martha enjoyed quilting, baking and camping. A memorial has been established to the University of Iowa Dance Marathon.

Survivors include five daughters, Mary Elizabeth Kiger of Clinton, Valerie Kiger of Fulton, Margaret “Peg” Renkes of Fulton, Nancy Brown of Clinton and Lynn (David) Kiger-Kuster of DeWitt, IA; two sons, Kevin and Lee Kiger, both of Fulton; nine grandchildren, Justin (Ashley) Kiger, Jared Balk, Lindsey (Drew) Nederhoff, Regan (Andres) Vernazza, Katelin (Brian) Killian, Aaron Brown, Makayla (Cody) Allison, Shawn Kiger and Abbigayle Kuster; five great grandchildren, Knox and Eva Kiger, Brayden Franzen, DeLaney and Kinsley Killian; one sister, Mary Katherine “Kit” (Scott) Clark of Hoffman Estates, IL; three brothers, James Abbott of Clinton, Jon Abbott of Clinton, and Richard (Patricia) Abbott of Chesterfield, VA; special friends, Pam and Bill Wisor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russ; a son-in-law, Kent Renkes; one brother, Lee “Tom” Abbott; two nephews, Timothy and Matthew Abbott.
