Obituary for Marlene Mae Wessels
MARLENE MAE WESSELS, 85, of Fulton, IL, died Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Resthave Home in Morrison, IL.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, officiated by Rev. Kevin VerHoeven. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 6th at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be in Fulton Township Cemetery.
Marlene was born May 5, 1933, in Fulton, IL, to Henry and Rena (Balk) Houzenga. She was educated in the Fulton grade schools and was a 1951 graduate of Fulton High School. On November 13, 1953 she married James L. Wessels in Fulton. He died on February 6, 2001. Marlene had been employed at Nielsen’s Clearing House in Clinton, IA. She was a charter member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, where she participated in the Lydia Society and was a church library assistant. She volunteered at the Windmill in Fulton and The Pregnancy Center in Clinton. Marlene was an avid reader. Memorials to The Pregnancy Center and Focal Point Ministries have been established.
Survivors include three daughters, Renae (Jim) Medenblik of Fulton, Tamara Wessels and Beth (Eric) Wessels–Rice, both of Durham, NC; four sons, Matt (Lorie) Wessels, Michael (Peg) Wessels, Tim (Laura) Wessels and Todd (Cindy) Wessels, all of Fulton; fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren.
Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, James; one granddaughter, Jessica Marie Gilliam; four sisters, Dorothy Sikkema, Anna Pessman, Jeannette Barr, Clara Barr; one brother, Gerald “Red” Houzenga.
