Mark was born September 15, 1951, in Morrison, IL to Carlyle and Audrey (Ackland) Sandrock. He was a graduate of Prophetstown High School. After graduation, he attended Sauk Valley Community College and received an Associate of Science Degree in Agriculture. On January 22, 1971, he married his long-time childhood friend and high school sweetheart Kathy J. Janssen at the First Lutheran Church in Prophetstown. For their 50th anniversary, his most memorable trip was alongside his wife to Israel in March 2018. They thoroughly enjoyed the breathtaking sites. Mark's faith was a large part of his life. He loved Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior, with all his heart.

Mark farmed in the rural Prophetstown area his entire life, with his father, brother, and son. He was active for many years with both the Whiteside County Farm Bureau and Pork Producers. He owned and flew his own airplane, and was a member of the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association). He had a passion for flying, tinkering with electronics, and woodworking. He served on the Prophetstown Fire Protection District and held the honorable positions of Lieutenant and Captain for the Prophetstown Fire Department, and was an EMT Basic for 33 years of combined service. He loved giving back to his community. Mark also worked for EMS at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL, and Morrison Community Hospital.
