Obituary for Mark C. Olson
MARK C. OLSON, 91, of Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison, IL died Friday, March 6, 2009 at the nursing home. Mark was born on February 7, 1918 in Harvey, ND to Charles Gustav and Jessie Amelia (Peterson) Olson. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1940 from North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND. He married Clarice Lee on July 19, 1941 in Minot, ND. She preceded him in death on March 18, 1997. Mark served in the U.S. Army from 1940-1945, during WWII. He served for 32 months of these years in the war zone in the Aleutian Islands, where he attained the rank of Captain in the Army Corps of Combat Engineers. Following the end of WWII, he went to work for General Electric Company in Schenectady, NY, and transferred with GE to Morrison, IL in 1955, where he continued to work in quality control until his retirement at age 65. He later worked part-time at Climco for several years. Mark was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Morrison, IL and served on the church"s Board of Trustees. He was also a past president of the Morrison Lions Club, a member of the Morrison Dunlap Lodge #321 " A.F. & A.M., and an Eagle Scout. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Wolff of Pacific Palisades, CA, and Mary (Philip) Pratt of Simi Valley, CA; one son, Mark Frederick (Elizabeth) Olson of Mansfield, MA; and six grandchildren, Julie Wolff, Nathan Wolff, Brian Pratt, Mallin Olson, Elena Olson and Amelia Olson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clarice; and his sister, Hazel Cole.
