Obituary for Marjorie A. Amman
MARJORIE A. (KISTHARD) AMMAN, 92, of Red Lodge, Montana passed away Monday, September 27, 2010 at the Beartooth Hospital in Red Lodge. Marge was born on September 4, 1918, the daughter of John and Cornelia (Dykema) Sikkema in Morrison, IL. She attended the Fulton Public schools. Marge attended Central College in Pella, IA for two years and completed her teaching degree at the University of Colorado (Boulder). Marge began her teaching career in 1938 where she taught grades K-12 in the rural schools of NW Illinois. Many of these schools were one room schoolhouses. For several years she taught in Boulder and Denver, Colorado and Santa Fe, NM. In 1961, she returned to her hometown of Fulton, teaching 1st grade from 1964 until her retirement in 1983. Marge taught for over 38 years and was loved by many students throughout her career. She was married to Dr. Wayne P. Kisthard in July of 1951. In 1960, they adopted 2 sons, Gary and Jim. A year later her husband passed away and she gladly took the lifelong role of providing for "her boys", a role she never ever regretted. In September 1998, Marge married Earle Amman in her home in Fulton and remained with him until his death in February 2007. Anxious to be with her sons and grandchildren, she moved to Red Lodge, Montana in March 2007, where she resided at Tender Nest Assisted Living home. Marge was a lifelong member of the Second Reformed Church in Fulton. Marge always put the needs of her sons, her grandchildren, and daughter-in-law first. She adored Maelyn and Bannack (grandchildren) and Cara (daughter-in-law). The consummate "teacher" Marge was always sought after to give advice on raising kids or just how to cope with life. Never one to tell you what to do, she would listen and give wise options. Survivors include her two sons, Gary and Jim; daughter-in-law, Cara; and grandchildren, Maelyn and Bannack, all of Red Lodge, Montana; one niece, Carol (Reuben) Kamper of Rochester, MN; a great nephew, Donald (Kathy) Kamper; great niece, Kimberly (Robert) Therres; two stepchildren, Warren (Susan) Amman and Beth Sullivan; three great nephews, Brian, Russell, and Riley and great niece, Britta. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Amman, sister-in-law, Helen Sikkema, brothers, Joel and Donald Sikkema, and husband, Wayne Kisthard.
