Obituary for Marilyn J. Vegter
The Vegter family is hosting a memorial reception for the late Marilyn and Steven Vegter on Saturday August 7th at Triple Play Bowling & Banquet in Fulton, IL. Everyone is invited to stop by between 1:00 – 4:00 PM to fellowship and help the family celebrate Marilyn and Steven’s lives. Triple Play is located at 1601 9th Avenue in Fulton.
MARILYN J. VEGTER, 78, of Morrison, IL, died Sunday, November 29, 2020, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL.
A private family graveside service will be held at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison with Rev. Kevin VerHoeven officiating. A private family visitation will be held at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Marilyn was born November 14, 1942, in Rockford, IL, to Marion C. and Geneva J. (Meurs) Stuart. She attended Morrison grade schools and was a graduate of Morrison High School. Marilyn married Harlan J. Vegter on November 25, 1960, in Morrison. She worked for Mt. Pleasant Mutual Insurance for more than twenty years as a secretary and office manager. Marilyn later worked for Forreston Mutual Insurance for a short while until going to work for the Whiteside News Sentinel for a few years. She enjoyed going out to eat and spending time with her family. She loved reading and traveling around to see her grandchildren. Marilyn never missed a ball game or an event her grandchildren were participating in. She taught Sunday school at Morrison Christian Reformed Church and she was a member of the former Golden Hour Circle.
Survivors include her husband, Harlan; one daughter, Barb (Scott) Reynolds of Fulton, IL; two sons, Arnold (Twyla) Vegter of Morrison and Mark Vegter of Bloomington, IL; eight grandchildren; five step grandchildren; nine step great grandchildren; two sisters, Nelta (David) Roeder of Morrison and Judy (Richard) Holesinger of Fulton, IL; three brothers, Larry Stuart of Rock Falls, IL; Richard Stuart of Clinton, IA; and Joel (Nikki) Stuart of Port Byron, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Steven Vegter; and one brother, Donald Stuart.
