Obituary for Marilyn A. Berge
MARILYN A. BERGE, 78, of Lanark, IL, died Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.
The funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, November 12, 2018, at the Lanark United Methodist Church in Lanark, IL, with Rev. Jarrod Severing officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, Sunday, November 11, 2018 at the Lanark United Methodist Church. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 12, 2018 at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL. The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Marilyn was born July 13, 1940, in Morrison, IL, to Walter D. and Adele D. (Beswick) Berge. She was educated in the Morrison Grade Schools and was a 1958 graduate of Lanark High School. She received a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University in Normal, IL and a master’s degree from University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO. Marilyn then taught Physical Education and was the girls sports coach from 1962 to 1995 at Flanagan, IL schools, where she pioneered the girls sports program. Following retirement, Marilyn was the Lanark Volleyball statistician until the present. She was a member of the Lanark Lions Club and the Carroll County Retired Teachers Association. She was inducted into the Northwestern Illinois Sports Hall of Fame. Marilyn looked out for everyone in her community. Memorials have been established to Lanark United Methodist Church and the Lanark Lions Club.
Survivors include many cousins; and two goddaughters, Laura Bjourklund and Leslie Long.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Donald in infancy.
