Obituary for Lyle K. Gehlsen
LYLE K. GEHLSEN, 92, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died Monday, June 18, 2007 at the nursing home. Lyle was born April 16, 1915 in Morrison, IL, to Christian C. and Mary L. (Kennedy) Gehlsen. He was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools and attended Morrison High School. Lyle married Ellen Irion on February 11, 1936 in Morrison. She died May 9, 1996. He was engaged in farming in the rural Morrison area. He also worked for Volckman Furniture Factory in Morrison, Green River Ordinance Depot, and Douglas Aircraft in Des Plaines, IL. He also owned and operated Morrison Electric Service. Lyle was a Trouble Shooter for the Hotpoint Co., retiring after 22 years of service. He was a member of the Morrison United Methodist Church and served several years with Volunteers in Probation organization. He was a member of I.O.O.F. for over 60 years, serving as Noble Grand and various other offices, ending as Lodge Deputy. He had been a volunteer firefighter with the Morrison Fire Department. He enjoyed camping and traveling. Survivors include two daughters, Joyce (Mrs. John) Goodenough of Morrison, IL and Jeanne Weiman of Peoria, IL; five grandchildren, Ralyn (Mrs. Wm. T) Udseth, Ellyn (Mrs. James) Book, Christa (Mrs. Louie) Hitzeroth, Laura (Mrs. James) Willman, Karen (Mrs. Ed) Ogborn; five great grandchildren, Abram Book, Zachary Hitzeroth, Amanda and Melissa Hanson, and Steven Willman; one sister, Sarah (Mrs. Guy) Johnston of Springfield, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ellen, one great grandson, Jacob Ryan Book, and one sister, Alma Entwhistle.
