Obituaries
LUELLA BUIS, 102, of Morrison, IL, died Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Resthave Home in
Morrison.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the Morrison Chapel
of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Stephan, pastor of CrossView Church in Fulton,
IL, officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service, starting at 9:30 AM. Interment will be
at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison. A memorial has been established to the American Heart
Association.
Luella was born May 11, 1921, in Garden Plain, IL, to Joe and Minnie (Jaarsma) Ottens. She was
educated in the rural Whiteside County Grade Schools. She married Dennis J. Buis on July 14,
1945, in Morrison, IL. He died September 24, 1999. Luella was employed at Clinton Garment
Company in Clinton, IA, for over 30 years. She was a member of Second Reformed Church in
Fulton, IL and the Whiteside County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed being a farm wife along with many
creative hobbies such as needlework, sewing, gardening and baking. She babysat for Shaun, Ashley
(Vegter) Propst and Destinee Vegter from infancy to school age and they are her grandchildren at
heart as well. Luella loved day trips to the Amana Colonies. For over 35 years she and her
husband fed Hereford cattle and became lifelong friends with Deno and IvaBelle Piloni who raised
them on their ranch in Colorado. Luella and Dennis visited there many times over the years.
Luella was fortunate to live 60 years at her farm home and was a good neighbor and friend to
many.
Survivors include one daughter, Debra (David) Rockey of Rapid City, SD; two grandchildren, Rachel
(Andy) Staats of Longmont, CO and Steven Hartman of Denver, CO; one sister, Betty Matthews of
San Diego, CA; one brother, Harvey Ottens of Morrison, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis; six sisters, Katherine Bielema, Johanna Vegter,
Jessie Dykema, Pauline Ottens, Della Mae Deelsnyder and one in infancy; three brothers, Gerald
Ottens, David Ottens and Laverne Ottens.
Luella will be missed by family, friends and neighbors, and, most especially by daughter Debra, her
husband, Dave and grandchildren, Rachel and Steven.
