LORRAINE HOUZENGA, 95, of Clinton, IA, formerly of Thomson, IL, died Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Addington Place of Clinton in Clinton.
Her funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Spring Valley Reformed Church in Fulton, IL, with Rev. Paul Wissink, pastor of Spring Valley Reformed Church, officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm at Fulton Township Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to Spring Valley Reformed Church.
Lorraine was born July 26, 1928, in Kenosha, WI, to Charles & Edna (Westerhof) Dykstra. She was educated in the Bunker Hill Grade School and the Fulton Christian School and was a 1945 graduate of Fulton High School. She furthered her education at the American Institute of Commerce. She married James G. “Jim” Houzenga on December 31, 1946, in Fulton, IL. He died March 31, 2008. Lorraine worked at Climax Engineering in Clinton, IA, and together with her late husband, Jim, she farmed in the Argo Fay area for 60 years, retiring in 1991. Lorraine was an active member of the Spring Valley Reformed Church in Fulton. She served as treasurer and was involved with the Ladies Aid Society. Lorraine also dedicated her time to teaching Sunday School for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling and keeping her hands busy with sewing, quilting, knitting, and crocheting. She also loved vegetable and flower gardening.
Survivors include three daughters, Kim (Kent) Stuart of Chadwick, IL, Kara (Barry) Cozart of Wilmington, NC and Kris (Eric) Dornbush of Bloomington, IL; three sons, Gary (Linda) Houzenga of Fulton, IL, Steven (Caroline) Houzenga of Blooming Prairie, MN and Van (Leigh Ann) Houzenga of Thomson, IL; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Dykstra, Fulton, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Houzenga and Michael Houzenga; one great-granddaughter, Lauren Pelham; two brothers, Wesley Dykstra and Cecil Dykstra.
