Obituary for Lola Mae Shirk
LOLA MAE SHIRK, 94, of Morrison, IL, died Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at her home in Morrison. Lola Mae was born September 28, 1919, in Morrison, IL, to Roy and Grace (Diehl) Twombly. She was educated in the Morrison grade schools and was a graduate of Morrison High School. She married Ellsworth G. Shirk on April 13, 1941, in Morrison. He died June 23, 1971. Lola Mae was first employed by Peterson"s Drug Store in Morrison. Most recently she worked for over 20 years at the Whiteside County Assessor"s Office. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Morrison where she had been active in the Presbyterian Women and also served as a Sunday school teacher. She was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader, and was also a member of the Morrison VFW Post #8281 Auxiliary. Lola Mae enjoyed golfing, sewing, needle work, gardening, swimming, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include three daughters, Betty (John) Monnett of Oshkosh, WI; Cindy Connelly of Morrison, IL, Joanne (Michael) Kutzman of Meadow Vista, CA; one son, William (Sherrie) Shirk of Morrison, IL; twelve grandchildren, John (Terri) Monnett III, Jeremy (Kate) Monnett, Jason (Jaimie) Monnett, Scott (Wendy) Connelly, Justin Connelly, Angela (John) Bresnahan, Blair (Misha) Kutzman, Morgan (Mike) Motia, Daley Kutzman, Matthew (Michelle) Shirk, Morgan Shirk, Paige Shirk; thirteen great-grandchildren, Miles & Brooks Monnett, Calvin & Juliet Monnett, Brianna, Andrew, Dannica,& Geneva Connelly, Lola & Ella Bresnahan, Gwen & Abby Kutzman, William Pierce Shirk; one sister, Elizabeth McKim of Morrison, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellsworth; two grandchildren, William Michael Shirk and Tenneile Kutzman.
