Obituary for Leroy Schipper
LEROY A. "SKIP" SCHIPPER, 80, of 1101 N. Bluff St., Albany, IL, died Friday, December 10, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton, IA. Skip was born September 10, 1930, in East Clinton, IL, to George and Jennie (Bielema) Schipper. He was educated in the Albany Grade School and attended the Albany High School and was a 1948 graduate of Fulton High School in Fulton, IL. He married Leanna A. Diesing on February 14, 1957 in Charlotte, IA. Skip worked in the tire business for 42 years. Most recently he managed Harry"s Farm Tire Inc. in Albany, IL for 14 years, retiring in 1995. He was a lifetime member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, and served as deacon. He was a 60 year member of the Albany Fire Department, serving as Assistant Fire chief for 30 years, Fire Chief for 12 years and Trustee for 14 years. He was a charter member of the Fulton Country Club and a member of the Albany Lions Club. Skip served as a member on the Albany Zoning Board and as an Albany Township Trustee. He was an avid golfer, bowler and Cubs fan. He also enjoyed playing softball, spending time with his grandchildren, farming with his brother and driving semi-truck. Survivors include his wife, Leanna; two sons, Lynn (Kathleen) Schipper and Kurt (Tracie) Schipper, both of Fulton, IL; four grandchildren, Kyle, Kraig, and Kole Schipper; Emily Schipper; one brother, Kenneth (Eileen) Schipper of Cordova, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Vernon Schipper.
