Obituary for Leonard P. Geerts Sr.
LEONARD P. GEERTS, SR., 70, of 1005 Church Street, Albany, IL, died Friday, August 3, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center West, Davenport, IA. Lennie was born March 24, 1937 in Fulton, IL, to Evert and Anna (Fisher) Geerts. He was educated in the Fulton grade schools and was a 1955 graduate of Fulton High School. Lennie married Phyllis A. Dornbush on October 4, 1957 in Fulton. He was employed as a driver for R.E. Kay Trucking in Albany and later was employed as a over-the-road driver by Roadway Express in Rock Island, IL for 27 years retiring in December 1999. Following his retirement, he was employed by the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Homes as a driver and funeral director"s assistant. Lennie was a member of the Albany Fire Department for 45 years, the Albany United Methodist Church and the church"s Methodist Men"s Group. He also served on the church board. He enjoyed traveling and attending the school and sports activities of his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; three sons, Leo (Deb) Geerts of Fulton, IL; David (Julie Norman) Geerts of Erie, IL; and Wayne (Julie) Geerts of Albany, IL; six grandchildren, Jason (Amy) Heyvaert, Wyatt Heyvaert, Tyler Geerts, Tatum Geerts, Byron Geerts and Korbin Geerts; three great grandchildren, Ella, Eli, and Grace Heyvaert; two sisters, Arlene (Mrs. Victor) Keller of Morrison, IL and Phyllis (Mrs. Sebert H.) Dykstra of Fulton, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Marvin Geerts.
