Obituary for Lena R. Barsema
LENA R. BARSEMA, 95, of Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, IL, died Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the nursing home. Lena was born September 15, 1913 in Morrison, IL, to Richard H. and Rika (Brilstra) Brackemyer. She was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools. Lena married Cornelius Barsema on September 26, 1946 in Morrison, IL. He died January 18, 1962. She then married Milton J. Barsema on August 24, 1962 in Morrison, IL. He died September 6, 1984. Lena was employed by the former Rich"s Toy Factory, was a private housekeeper, and also worked at Volckmann"s Furniture Factory in Morrison. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton. Lena enjoyed arts and crafts and sewing. She was a loving grandmother. Survivors include one son, Richard K. (Joan) Barsema of Thomson, IL; two granddaughters, Rana Sue Barsema (Steve Jones) and Christine Lynn (Fred) Reedy; three stepdaughters, Florence (Richard) Kreis of Beach Park, IL; Dorothy (A.L. "Bud") Wells of St. Cloud, FL; and Shirley (Kenneth) Bierman of Fulton, IL; ten step grandchildren, Larry, Kevin, and Merlin Kreis, Garald and Gordon Wells, Everett and David Barsema, Deborah Stelter, Lori Staggs, and James J. Bierman; one brother, Richard J. Brackemyer of Morrison, IL. She was preceded in death by both husbands; one stepson, Vernon Barsema; one sister, Jane Vanderlaan; four brothers, Henry, Raymond, Jacob, and Robert Brackemyer.
