Obituary for Larry D. Groh
LARRY D. GROH, 68, of 1015 College Avenue, Clinton, IA, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, IA. Larry was born October 29, 1940 in Clinton, IA to Harold and Clara (Ven Huizen) Groh. He was educated in the Fulton Grade Schools and graduated from Fulton High School in 1958. He received his business degree from Central College in Pella, IA in 1963. Larry married Charlene Vos in 1962. He later married Karen Baker on November 29, 1972 in Clinton, IA. He was first employed at Nielson Clearing House in Clinton. He owned and operated the Porthole in Clinton and the Porthole Too and Muffins both in Fulton. He later worked for Schultz Enterprise as a district manager for Kentucky Fried Chicken. Larry was a member of Second Reformed Church and enjoyed golfing at Buck"s Barn in Thomson, IL. Survivors include his wife, Karen of Clinton, IA; three sons, David (Lisa) Groh of Fulton; Craig (Lisa) Abbott of Camanche, IA; and Russell Abbott of Clinton; his father, Harold Groh of Fulton; one brother, Leon (Donna) Groh of Fulton; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his mother, Clara Groh, and a son, James Abbott.
