Obituary for Judith E. Welbourne
JUDITH E. "JUDY" WELBOURNE, 75, of Prophetstown, IL, died Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at CGH Medical Center, Sterling, IL. Judy was born September 28, 1940, in Kewanee, IL, to Wilbur W. and Emily C. (Schneck) Raley. She was educated in the Kewanee Grade Schools and was a 1958 graduate of Kewanee High School. Judy married Gerald L. "Jerry" Welbourne on July 3, 1960, in Kewanee, IL. He died September 29, 2014. Judy was first employed by the former Penberthy Manufacturing in Prophetstown, IL. She later was employed by the former Lawrence Brothers Manufacturing in Sterling, IL for 25 years, retiring in 1994. Judy was a member of the Prophetstown United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bowling and was active in bowling leagues in Prophetstown. She was also a very active volunteer, along with her late husband, for the Happy Tails Animal Shelter, working many long hours to ensure the comfort of needy animals. Judy enjoyed reading, fishing, and feeding and watching the birds. She was an avid Chicago Bears fan. Survivors include one daughter, Christi (Richard) Shaw of Rock Falls, IL; one grandchild, Stephanie Bertine; three step grandchildren, Josh Shaw, Natalie Shaw, and Vanessa Simmons; four great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Sumbles of Kewanee, IL; four nieces, Christine (Jeff) Smith, Carey (Rick) Bruder, Paula (Alan) Schipper, and Pam (Jeff) Clark; one nephew, Dale (Robyn Stradt) Clark; and many great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; one grandson, Corey Bertine; one sister, Carolyn Neary; and one niece, Cheryl Hill.
